TEAM / Oscar Anderson
Oscar Anderson is a respected government relations professional.
With nearly 30 years of experience in the public and private sectors, Oscar is skilled in cutting government red tape and navigating political trends, achieving impressive results for those he represents.
Oscar has successfully advocated for hundreds of businesses and organizations at the local, state and federal levels of government, specializing in areas such as budgeting, housing, environmental policy and growth management.
Oscar began his accomplished political career as legislative aide to a Florida state representative, working his way through the ranks of local, state and federal government. He was honored to serve a part in the George W. Bush Presidential Transition for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and was one of the 12 “parachuters” that took over management of the federal agency on Day 1 of the new administration. He started as the Assistant to the Secretary to Legislation and was the primary budget negotiator for HUD on Capitol Hill. He concluded his time at HUD as the Deputy Chief of Staff, continuing his budget but also taking on responsibility for approval for all Rules and Regulations promulgated by the agency.
After leaving DC to return to Florida, Oscar then served as Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary for the Department of Community Affairs. At DCA, he successfully directed passage of the landmark Wekiva Parkway and Protection Act, as well as the first overhaul to the state’s growth management laws in over two decades.
Once he joined The Southern Group in 2005, Oscar has focused his representation on different entities across the housing spectrum – from local governments to housing agencies to affordable housing developers – on issues at state and federal level.
Oscar proudly serves on the Board of Directors of the Florida Wildlife Corridor and previously served on Orange County’s Housing for All Task Force and as Chairman of Florida’s Affordable Housing Study Commission.
Oscar holds a Marketing degree from Stetson University and a Master’s degree in Public Affairs from the University of Florida. The grandson of a citrus grower from Lakeland, Florida, Oscar is a proud native Floridian. He lives in Orlando with his beloved wife and their three children, who are his greatest accomplishment.
