TEAM / Larken Egleston

Larken Egleston brings extensive experience in government relations, public policy, and local government to The Southern Group. Most recently, he served as Director of Intergovernmental Affairs for the North Carolina Attorney General at the North Carolina Department of Justice, where he coordinated engagement with federal, state, and local partners on policy and legislative priorities. 

Previously, Egleston served as Congressional District Director for U.S. Representative Jeff Jackson (NC-14) and was elected to two terms on the Charlotte City Council. His professional background also includes representing Republic National Distributing Company as a brand ambassador for Western North Carolina. In addition, he has contributed commentary and analysis to several local publications, including The Charlotte ObserverElevate Magazine, and Creative Loafing. 

Egleston is deeply engaged in civic and nonprofit leadership. He currently serves as Vice Chair of the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority, is a member of the North Carolina Advisory Committee for the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition, and sits on the advisory board for Central Piedmont Community College’s Culinary Arts program. He also serves on the executive board of Preservation North Carolina. His prior service includes appointments by Governor Josh Stein to the North Carolina Geographic Information Coordinating Committee, representation of the City of Charlotte on the Centralina Regional Council and the North Carolina League of Municipalities, and leadership roles with the Charlotte/Mecklenburg Historic Landmarks Commission and the City of Charlotte’s International Cabinet. 

Throughout his career, Egleston has been active in public service and political leadership, including serving as President of the Mecklenburg County Young Democrats, a member of the North Carolina Democratic Party State Executive Committee, and a local precinct chair. He has been a delegate to the 2016, 2020, and 2024 Democratic National Conventions. His community involvement has also included service as a volunteer firefighter with the Long Creek Volunteer Fire Department and board leadership with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Carolinas Chapter. 

He holds an associate degree from Johnson & Wales University and a bachelor’s degree from Appalachian State University, where he currently serves as Chair of the Board of Visitors.
