Elizabeth Whitehurst joins The Southern Group – NC as a Government Affairs Manager, bringing a sharp strategic mind, proactive approach, and a track record of delivering results in legislative and regulatory affairs to the team. With experience spanning government relations, policy analysis, and stakeholder engagement, she has worked alongside top firms and industry leaders to navigate political landscapes and drive meaningful outcomes.
Most recently, Elizabeth served as a Policy Analyst at Michael Best Strategies, supporting North Carolina and Texas state government lobbyists and more than 20 clients. She conducted bill analysis, developed policy materials, and provided research to help clients anticipate and respond to legislative and regulatory developments. Her ability to synthesize complex information and provide strategic insights made her an invaluable asset.
Prior to Michael Best Strategies, Elizabeth worked at Reynolds American Inc. as a Global Graduate Management Trainee in Legal and External Affairs. She conducted nationwide policy research, analyzed political and economic trends, and prepared regulatory outlooks that informed corporate strategy. Her experience also includes roles in political fundraising and research, including an internship at Holloway Consulting Inc., where she analyzed campaign donations and managed event logistics, and at Vote USA, where she led candidate research and conducted interviews.
Elizabeth’s understanding of government affairs and ability to manage policy initiatives were also shaped by leadership roles at Wake Forest University. As President of Wake Forest College Republicans, she increased membership by 20% during the COVID-19 pandemic through strategic recruitment and grassroots engagement. She also served as Deputy Communications Director for the North Carolina Federation of College Republicans and as Student Conduct Advisor Chair for the Wake Forest Judicial Council, training and leading peers in advising.
A North Carolina native, Elizabeth earned a B.A. in Politics and International Affairs (with Honors) from Wake Forest University, where she also majored in Spanish. She is a certified Notary Public. Known for her strategic mindset, initiative, and ability to build strong relationships, Elizabeth has been praised by leaders and colleagues for her professionalism and dedication to excellence.
Elizabeth currently resides in Raleigh, NC.
