Edgar Castro is a Founding Partner of The Southern Group’s Miami office, which he helped establish in 2013. With over two decades of experience in government affairs, he specializes in legislative advocacy, campaign fundraising, community relations, Hispanic outreach, and strategic lobbying at the federal, state, and local levels.
Edgar has successfully represented municipalities, trade associations, businesses, and nonprofits before the Federal Government, the Florida Legislature, the Governor’s Office, Miami-Dade County and numerous other municipalities. His policy expertise spans emergency management, energy, financial services, gaming, higher education, real estate, transportation, procurement, telecommunications, traffic safety, and intellectual property.
A seasoned political professional, Edgar began his career as a White House Intern and in the office of U.S. Senator Bob Graham. He has held key roles in Washington, D.C., as a public policy consultant, in the Florida Governor’s Office, and as a Legislative Assistant in the Florida House of Representatives. Known for his deep bipartisan relationships, Edgar has worked on numerous U.S. and State House and Senate campaigns and mastered the intricacies of legislative strategy and government relations.
In addition to his domestic portfolio, Edgar is recognized for his work in the Western Hemisphere. He leverages extensive relationships with the U.S. Department of Commerce, Department of State, and U.S. Embassies across the region to advise American companies on market entry, expansion, and risk mitigation in Panama, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Venezuela, and other markets. He provides high-level strategic guidance on security, ports, airports, healthcare, oil & gas, and infrastructure projects, helping clients navigate complex regulatory and political environments while identifying partnership opportunities.
Edgar has been recognized for his effective legislative advocacy on behalf of prominent organizations, including the Florida Bar, the Lucy Fernandez Foundation, and the Recording Industry Association of America. He operates from The Southern Group’s offices in Miami, Tallahassee, and Washington, D.C.
