Edgar Castro joined The Southern Group in 2013, as one of the Founding Partners of the Miami Office. Edgar’s core business is government affairs, campaign fundraising, community relations, Hispanic outreach, and lobbying. Edgar has successfully advocated for municipalities, trade associations, businesses and non profits before Florida’s executive and legislative branches, The City of Miami, The City of Doral, Miami-Dade County, and a number of additional municipalities therein. Edgar’s areas of expertise include emergency management, energy, financial services, gaming, higher education, traffic safety, real estate, intellectual property, transportation, procurement and telecommunications.
Edgar assists his clients with their relationships with the Hispanic community by developing a strategic plan of engagement and facilitating access to leaders and stakeholders.
Edgar began his political career as a White House Intern and in the Office of United States Senator, Bob Graham. He also worked in Washington, D.C., as a public policy consultant for a government relations and consulting company. In that role, Edgar was responsible for researching and analyzing federal legislative actions and making recommendations to help clients effectively respond to governmental opportunities while avoiding potential risks. In Tallahassee, he worked in the governor’s office and as a legislative assistant for the Florida House of Representatives.
In all of these roles, Edgar learned the intricacies of the legislative processes and committee procedures and built strong ties to staff and members of both chambers and parties. Throughout his career, Edgar has worked on numerous political campaigns, including candidates in the U.S. House and Senate.
Edgar has been recognized for his long record of legislative advocacy on behalf of numerous organizations, including the Florida Bar and the Recording Industry Association of America.
