Edgar Castro joined The Southern Group in 2013, bringing with him a decade of experience in the political arena. Edgar’s core business is government affairs, community relations, and lobbying in Miami-Dade County and Tallahassee. Edgar has successfully advocated for administrative and regulatory agencies, businesses, the Florida Bar before Florida’s executive and legislative branches, municipalities, trade associations, Miami-Dade County, and a number of the municipalities therein. Edgar’s areas of expertise include emergency management, energy, family law, financial services, gaming, intellectual property, transportation, and telecommunications.
Edgar assists his clients with their relationships with the Hispanic community by developing a strategic plan of engagement and facilitating access to leaders and stakeholders.
Edgar began his political career in Tallahassee, working in the governor’s office and as a legislative assistant for the Florida House of Representatives. In this role, he learned the intricacies of the legislative processes and committee procedures and built strong ties to staff and members of both chambers and parties. Throughout his career, Edgar has worked on numerous political campaigns, including candidates in the U.S. House and Senate, Florida House of Representatives and Senate, and the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners. Edgar has also worked in Washington, D.C., as a public policy consultant for a government relations and consulting company. In that role, Edgar was responsible for researching and analyzing Florida and federal legislative actions and making recommendations to help clients effectively respond to governmental opportunities while avoiding potential risks.
Edgar has been recognized for his long record of volunteerism and legislative advocacy on behalf of numerous organizations, including the Family Law Section of the Florida Bar and the Recording Industry Association of America.
Edgar splits his time between Miami and Tallahassee.
