Callie Michael joined The Southern Group’s Atlanta office in 2010. With over 14 years of experience lobbying for state and federal government, she has developed expertise in appropriations, campaigns, economic and business development, education, gaming, health care, insurance, local government, lottery, manufacturing, medical marijuana, military, policy, public and private partnerships, public safety, senior issues, technology, and travel and tourism.
Callie’s career began in Washington, D.C., where she maintained a top-secret security clearance from the United States Department of Defense and worked in the U.S. House of Representatives Appropriations Committee on the Defense Subcommittee. In this capacity, Callie gained rare insight into the federal appropriations process, as well as valuable contacts at the federal level.
In 2005, Callie joined the Georgia Senate Budget and Evaluation Office as the program analyst for the Criminal Justice, Public Safety, and Judicial Subcommittees on Appropriations. She was soon promoted to the position of principal analyst, assuming the duties and responsibilities of the departing deputy director. Callie oversaw the daily operations of the budget development process and briefed senators on budget and policy issues. Prior to joining Southern, Callie served as Senate President Pro Tem Tommie Williams’s policy director during the 2010 legislative session, providing key policy analysis and recommendations to Senate leadership.
In 2015, Callie was named Top Female Lobbyist by James Magazine. Callie is a graduate of Republican Leadership for Georgia as well as a former treasurer and board member of the Conservative Policy Leadership Institute. Callie has also volunteered for the American Red Cross, the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and Autism Speaks.
Callie graduated from the University of Alabama with a BA in history and political science. A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Callie resides in Atlanta, Georgia.
