Ashley Thomas joins The Southern Group’s Georgia office with a wealth of experience in the Georgia Senate, where she has served under various legislators in different capacities.
Ashley spent the first four years of her career in the Georgia General Assembly, focusing on research and staff work for a half dozen state Senators. Most recently, she was a legislative assistant to Senator Billy Hickman, who serves as chair of the Senate Committee on Higher Education. She has also served as an assistant to Senators Mallow, Burns, Rhett, and Jackson since 2021.
Ashley started her career as an intern for the Health and Human Services Committee. After graduation, she quickly landed a position as an aide in the Office of Senate Research, where she tracked legislation and filled Senators’ research requests.
From there, she moved to legislative assistant positions, in which she became deeply immersed in the General Assembly’s interworkings, including drafting resolutions, interacting with lobbyists, handling constituent issues, and managing interns and other staff.
Ashley graduated from the University of North Georgia with a Master of Public Administration from Penn State University.
