Before joining The Southern Group – NC, Alicia Davis built an impressive career in state government, advising leadership at the highest levels and managing key legislative initiatives across multiple agencies.
Alicia most recently served as Legislative Director in the Office of Governor Roy Cooper, where she led a team of three and provided strategic direction on the Governor’s legislative agenda. In this role, she worked directly with both Republican and Democratic leadership to advance key priorities, including the successful bipartisan effort to expand Medicaid in North Carolina. Alicia’s leadership in negotiating complex legislative matters and fostering communication between diverse stakeholders was instrumental in the Governor’s policy successes.
Prior to her time in the Governor’s Office, Alicia held significant roles in state government, including Legislative Liaison for the North Carolina Department of the Secretary of State and the North Carolina Department of Public Safety. In these roles, she helped develop and implement legislative strategies, crafted policy analysis, and worked closely with legislative members and stakeholders to pass important initiatives such as remote online notarization legislation and the formalization of the Tarheel Challenge statute.
Alicia’s vast understanding of state government and her ability to navigate complex political landscapes were also shaped by her earlier career as a communications specialist and legislative liaison for various state agencies. She has built a reputation for her ability to communicate complicated issues in clear, actionable terms, as well as her skill in fostering collaboration across party lines.
Beginning her career in public service as a North Carolina House Page, Alicia became an intern for the Speaker Pro Tempore at the North Carolina General Assembly during a pivotal time in the state’s legislative history. Alicia’s passion for public policy was inspired by her tenacious mother, who is a former lobbyist.
Alicia is a Raleigh, N.C. native who earned a B.A. in Political Science from North Carolina State University and a J.D. from North Carolina Central University School of Law. She currently resides in Raleigh.
